Star Wars owes much of its success to the writers who first brought it to life and the creative teams that defined the franchise over time.
Star Wars would not be what it is today without the hard work of its talented array of writers, making them the most important people behind the franchise. Though Star Wars began as one person's vision, other writers helped bring it to life and expanded the saga in the following decades. Some wrote screenplays from the creator's stories, others developed their own tales through books and comics, and a few were eventually able to write their own Star Wars movies and TV shows.
George Lucas Is The Creator Of Star Wars Star Wars was created by George Lucas in the early 1970s, who sought to recreate classic mythology for modern audiences. Lucas drew inspiration from the Flash Gordon serials he grew up watching, the films of Akira Kurosawa, and aerial combat footage from World War II. Most of all, Lucas structured Star Wars' story around the hero's journey concept that was made famous by Joseph Campbell.
Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy Relaunched The Star Wars Expanded Universe In 1991 Before Star Wars returned to the big screen in 1999, Timothy Zahn helped launch the modern Expanded Universe in 1991 with the Thrawn trilogy. Lucasfilm had finally authorized new stories that continued Lucas' movies after Return of the Jedi, making Heir to the Empire a huge success upon release.
