Alison Thewliss said she 'feels she has a duty to step up'
at the age of 17 in 1997.
Following some campaigning work with the party, she stood for the Calton Ward at the 2007 Glasgow City Council election.She was one of 19 SNP candidates to gain a seat and was subsequently re-elected in 2012. Thewliss then stood down from the role in 2015 after being elected as an MP for Glasgow Central at the 2015 General Election. She currently serves as the SNP Shadow Chancellor.Several SNP MPs reacted to Thewliss’s announcement on social media. Pete Wishart said on Twitter: “There is no one better prepared and ready to lead than Alison. Great news for the party and the group atIn a separate tweet he confirmed he would be supporting Alison Thewliss to be the next group leader.
