Matt Gaetz has drawn a last-minute Republican primary challenger in his bid for reelection.Aaron Dimmock, a former naval aviator, filed Friday to run against Gaetz in the GOP primary for Florida's 1st Congressional District. Gaetz, who has represented the district since 2017, is a conservative firebrand known to be among former President Donald Trump's staunchest allies in Congress.
Gun reform advocate Gay Valimont is running unopposed in the Democratic primaries and will head directly into the general election in November. Valimont is a state leader for the gun safety group Moms Demand Action.Gaetz has already attacked Dimmock over X, criticizing his new opponent for previously supporting the Black Lives Matter movement and diversity initiatives.
