Manager Tony La Russa did not travel with the White Sox for this weekends three-game series against the Tigers.
“No, I don’t. I’m just doing my job,” Cairo told reporters. “I’m the bench coach. Because [La Russa’s] medical reason, I’m the manager right now — interim manager.
“I just go day to day. We prepare. When he comes back, he’s going to be the manager. I’m going to do my duties. I still do my duties. It doesn’t change anything.” The White Sox entered Friday three games back of the Guardians for first place in the AL Central. They’ve gone 11-5 during Cairo’s stint as acting manager.
La Russa told USA Today's Bob Nightengale in Oakland it's"uncertain" when he'll return to the dugout, which general manager Rick Hahn echoed this week. “As for if and when that may occur, we simply don't have that information at this point,” Hahn said Tuesday. “And in the end, we're going to, understandably, follow the advice of medical experts on this.”
