Glasgow's infamous 'bendy buses' were hailed as a revolution in public transport when they arrived in the summer of 1999, but the extra long vehicles would not be without their critics.

He said: "Britain's first low-floor bendy buses have been tested in Manchester and Glasgow and were a huge success.
To help inform the public of the new routes, tens of thousands of pocket-sized route maps were distributed to every household in Glasgow. The length of the bendy buses was proving a headache too. Drivers on the service had to be specially trained to handle the articulated vehicles, that were so long, they needed a video camera on the back for reversing.
As well as the buses being difficult to manoeuvre, the articulation mechanism was prone to failure when travelling over uneven surfaces and speed bumps. The cumbersome vehicles were even banned from Buchanan Bus Station for a spell after a number of breakdown incidents caused blockages at the busy city centre terminal.
