In the release, Whatcom County said a toxicology report showed other drugs were present as well, including fentanyl and methamphetamines. Xylazine is not an opioid, so naloxone sprays like Narcan or Kloxxado will not reverse an overdose, the county said. But the county also said naloxone should be used if you suspect someone is having an overdose because Xylazine is often mixed with fentanyl and the spray can reverse fentanyl overdoses.
The release said Xylazine reduces brain activity along with dangerous reductions in a person's breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure. The drug can also cause severe skin wounds anywhere on the body that are difficult to heal.
