Here are some items of note from when Nick Saban and three former Alabama players in the NFL draft -- Evan Neal, Christian Harris and Phidarian Mathis -- met with reporters Wednesday:
-- With more starters returning on defense, Saban told SEC Network that side of the ball can “absorb it a little quicker and you can put it in a little faster, where on offense, maybe with more younger players, maybe we need to be more patient in terms of how we do things so everybody can keep moving in the right direction without getting overly confused about just the volume of information that you can really throw at these guys really quickly in spring practice.
-- Neal’s body composition was the talk of the NFL combine earlier this month after he weighed in at 337 pounds butin a viral shirtless photo posted to Twitter. Asked Wednesday about his diet, Neal said he aims to eat 3,500 to 4,000 calories a day. “I like to eat lean meats like rotisserie chicken, rice, steak -- I’m allergic to seafood, so I can’t eat fish or anything like that, which is a bummer. So I eat turkey, things like that. A lot of beans, protein, things like that.
