Traumasplaining is the new word for over-sharers and people-pleasers and we are ✨triggered✨
Women are half as likely to be given drugs for fatal bleeds, according to a new study.“We think we have to over-explain ourselves because we often don’t validate our experiences,” Monica tells me. “We so often talk aboutothers, but we don’t realise how we do it to ourselves. When we refuse to own our experiences , we actually inherently become a victim to them and therefore it shows up in over-explaining, as a way to seek validation from others to get a sense of safety.
Monica explains that the key thing to understand is that true safety, especially after trauma comes from cultivating that within yourself: “Relying on others to make you feel safe, will create an illusion of safety, but it won’t allow your body to experience visceral safety,” she says.“Additionally, a lot of people don’t know how to hold themselves in their boundaries,” she adds - or, as I point out, don't really know how to set those boundaries at all.
Adding that there's a key difference between taking control of your own narrative and traumasplaining: “There’s a big difference between having ownership of your experience, and taking back control, and traumasplaining. Talking about a traumatic experience through your own choice in a safe environment, in order to validate, make sense of, or heal from it is positive.
