Surprise surprise, there's yet another wellbeing trend doing the rounds on TikTok!
Irina Gamagina thinks there is something to it, though like most 'miracle' solutions – it should be taken with a healthy dose of scepticism.
“Although the chia-seed drink trend on TikTok is not a miracle recipe or something outlandishly different to which ingredients we already know work well for the digestive tract, there are some validities to the claims,” she says. "For years, chia seeds have been heralded as a ‘superfood’ for aiding digestion. By attracting water and creating a gel-like substance similar to that of carb-heavy foods, these seeds help stool pass smoothly through the body.
Apparently, it's best to drink it on an empty stomach, so at least 30 minutes before food, or at least 90 minutes after you last ate.
