And you can see why The Goat made his list. It’s studded with regulars in the early afternoon, which is the best time to visit, Head says, despite its identity as a blues bar with live music in the evenings. Like other dive bars, nothing is new here. Even the wood-top tables, plastered with pictures of happy people, were hand-me-downs, two owners removed. Nobody knows who those people are, stuck under their beers. It doesn’t matter, anyway: Decades of beer drinking has worn their faces off.
Every dive bar has some kind of story, too. In the book, Head notices dozens of polka dots on the wall. See, blues guitarist Buddy Guy often wears polka dotted shirts, so Bill added white dots on the black walls in tribute to Guy, who was touring through Dallas in 2018. Wouldn’t Guy like to stop into The Goat and play a few songs?Other unnamed celebrities have strolled through the doors over the years, but Testa is smart not to name them.
