Houstonians are downing this beer and liquor more than any others right now

, over the past 12 months, Bud Light is the leader, Modelo is second and Michelob ULTRA is third, Camilo Rojas, the vice president of marketing for the beverage distributor, said.Silver Eagle Distributors Houston serves over 9,000 businesses in the metropolitan Houston area including in Fort Bend, Montgomery and Harris counties, Rojas said.

Despite Bud Light being around since 1982, it wasn't always the most popular beer in Houston or the U.S., according to Rojas. The marketing efforts by Anheuser-Busch — the owner of Bud Light, Michelob ULTRA, Stella Artois, Budweiser and Busch Light — and distribution by wholesalers contributed to the beer's rise in popularity around the country, he said.

"It has been the number one beer for a while," Rojas stated."I love the attributes of Bud Light. Light, refreshing drinkability." Bud Light being named the official beer of the Houston Texans and Houston Dynamo FC has also been beneficial to the beverage's staying power atop the distributor's beer market share, Rojas said.Although Bud Light seems to be the beer of choice for Houston residents, liquor amassed the most sales in 2022, according to data compiled through the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.

Houston alcohol sales are responsible for more than 15 percent of the total alcohol sales for the state in 2022, the data show. When it comes to individual establishments in Houston, a handful of places rise to the top in alcohol sales. The Post Oak Hotel, which operates both Mastro's Steakhouse and Willie G's Seafood, sold over $4.6 million in alcohol in 2022. The Address – a restaurant, bar and event space in Riverside neighborhood – sold nearly $4 million in alcohol.
