It's even nicer warm, so it's ideal as a dessert in the colder months
Like most supermarkets, Aldi sells most types of sponge, from swiss rolls to carrot cake. But now it's launched a new Sticky Toffee Cake - and it's going down a treat.
It's not your traditional sticky toffee pudding, it sells one of those richer cakes with juicy dates too, but this is a more, I'd argue, child-friendly version, with treacle buttercream, topped with treacle sauce and finished with fudge cubes.READ MORE: Supermarket 'most expensive' for basket of essentials after all others drop price of shopping staple
With treacle being a traditional Bonfire Night treat, the cake is the perfect dessert if you're watching the fireworks or gathering with friends and family this weekend. We followed the suggestion on the box to 'try me warm' and it was even nicer. The sponge cake is so soft and the flavours of treacle and fudge blend beautifully to make it flavoursome, but not as overpowering as some sticky toffee puddings.
It says it feeds 6, but we're a family of four and easily managed a quarter each. But at £2.25, reduced from the usual £2.49, that's not a bad price for pudding. You'll find the cake in stores, alongside the Belgian Chocolate Cake.
