After battling back from 3-1 deficit, San Diego Wave gives up late penalty and falls to team that had won only once this season
went to Washington this weekend hoping it would not be their only trip to the nation’s capital this season. Not when the National Women’s Soccer League championship game is scheduled to be played there next month.
Ashley Hatch calmly banged the ball past Wave goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan and Washington had a 4-3 victory, only its second win of the season , while the Wave faced a long flight home. Washington, however, answered quickly, and scored more goals in the first half than the Wave had allowed in any game this season. Tara McKeown tied it four minutes later, and Amber Brooks — who hadn’t scored a goal since 2019 — got one in the 30th minute and another in the 44th, both due in part to sloppy defense.
