A surveillance camera recorded the mother being shot multiple times. Askia Strong remains on the run.
. A detective at the scene reported the shooting victim, as well as her children, had been taken to a hospital -- and were not located on the scene. However, it was learned there were several ShotSpotter activations in the area -- and that officers had recovered the victim's vehicle, six fired 9mm brass casings, and a deformed copper jacketed bullet.
The next day, following surgery for her wounds, the victim spoke with a detective. The complaint says "she was shot by the father of her children, who she identified as Askia Strong." All of them had been in a minivan near 24th and Lapham. The victim told police "the defendant tried to show inappropriate photos to their daughter," the complaint says. When then victim told Strong to stop, that prompted an argument.
According to the complaint, when the woman began driving again, "she looked back and saw a gun on the defendant's lap." She told police Strong "told her he was going to shoot her." Because she was scared for her life and her children's lives, she exited the minivan and began to run. The complaint says "the defendant chased her into the alley, and she heard a gunshot" and felt pain.
Several surveillance cameras in the area near 24th and Lapham recorded parts of this incident -- including the woman being shot multiple times. Again, while Strong has been charged with this crime, he is not in police custody.
