The ‘End Frozen Pensions’ campaign also said Labour has ‘missed an opportunity’ to level up payments for retirees living abroad.
The Women Against State Pension Inequality Campaign have said there is still time for Labour to “reconfirm its support for those who have been so badly let down by the Conservatives” after its manifesto made no mention of redress for millions of women impacted by changes to the State Pension age.
The campaigner continued: “Despite warm words over many years, those who once claimed to be our biggest champions have now abandoned us at the last minute. But those who once claimed to be our biggest champions now seem to have forgotten us despite making promises to victims of other scandals. And it wasn’t just 3.6 million WASPI women overlooked in the manifesto, campaigners for the ‘End Frozen Pensions’ campaign also noted there was no mention of levelling up State Pensions for an estimated 450,000 retirees living in a country that does not have a reciprocal agreement with the UK Government.
“Labour backed an end to this cruel policy in 2019. It is disappointing that this ‘Government in waiting’ has made no such pledge today. We sincerely hope that Labour will stand up to its commitments, and conducts a full review of the state pension to include addressing this deeply harmful, purely arbitrary policy.”
