Wendy Chamberlain pressed Chancellor Rachel Reeves on compensation plans for women born in the 1950s.
The deputy leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats expressed “concern” after Chancellor Rachel Reeves' statement in Parliament on Monday that no mention was made of any progress on a compensation plan for women born in the 1950s affected by changes to their State Pension age. Wendy Chamberlain MP reminded the House that the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman’s final report, published in March, “was clear that maladministration was suffered”.
However, Parliament is due to rise for summer recess today and will not sit again until September 2, so any statement is not likely to be made until then, but as Ms Chamberlain said, progress on the compensation plan would be expected before the Autumn Statement on October 30. “As the new Secretary of State says this scandal has been going on for years, so the idea it is all a new issue for them to take a view about is really for the birds. They have had the Ombudsman’s very clear report for four months even before they took office.
