Women Against State Pension Inequality leaders met with Pensions Minister Emma Reynolds to discuss proposed £3,000 compensation
A key meeting has taken place between campaigners fighting for a payout for women who were treated unfairly and lost out when the state pension age was changed. The Women Against State Pension Inequality campaign met with Pensions Minister Emma Reynolds MP to discuss the government action.
“WASPI has always been a pragmatic campaign, and we remain determined to see a financial remedy that works for both affected women and the taxpayer, following the clear recommendations of both the Parliamentary Ombudsman and the Work and Pensions Select Committee.” The meeting between Pensions Minister Emma Reynolds MP and WASPI representatives was held in private at Westminster.
The WASPI chair continued: “Our campaign has been going for nearly 10 years now and this is the first meeting we've had with a Pensions Minister. So that’s quite significant. In a report published in March, before the July General Election was called, the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman asked Parliament to identify how to provide an appropriate remedy for those who have suffered injustice because of maladministration on the part of the Department for Work and Pensions . The ombudsman’s report suggested that compensation at level four, ranging between £1,000 and £2,950, could be appropriate for each of those affected.
