One part of the region is the second-worst affected area in England and Wales
A warning has been issued to homeowners in Greater Manchester as the Japanese knotweed hotspot areas have been revealed. New data has shown a total of 2,807 infestations across the region this year, with one area named as the second-worst affected location in England and Wales.
Also amongst the affected areas are Wigan, Stockport, Rochdale, Oldham and Salford, with reported infestations ranging between 239 and 40. The Japanese Knotweed Heatmap alerts homeowners to the risk level in their local area, as you can enter your postcode to discover the number of verified knotweed sightings near you.
Tackling knotweed costs the UK economy nearly £250 million a year and homeowners are one of the groups most at risk – not only from potential damage to their property, outbuildings and gardens, which can be costly to repair, but also from legal risks arising from encroachment or when properties are sold.
