San Antonio Spurs’ Lonnie Walker set for uncertain free agency
Like many inexperienced first-timers to San Antonio’s annual bacchanal, Walker admits he might have overindulged.“It hit a point I had about 30 sticks on the floor of my car,” Walker said. “Don’t tell my nutritionist.”
A native of Reading, Pa., who spent one college season at Miami, Walker admits he knew little about San Antonio before joining the Spurs. Without a new deal, Walker entered his fourth NBA season determined to drive up his price tag. The results were mixed. “He’s kind of taken on Manu’s role in a way,” Popovich said. “He comes off the bench, he knows he needs to score for us, and he’s more than happy to do that.”Like most 20-somethings drafted in the first round, Walker has designs on eventually becoming a full-time NBA starter.
