Walk to ancient Lancashire summit with Morecambe Bay and Lake District views
This week's suggested walk comes with the simplest instructions we've offered - but still leaves plenty to explore and enjoy.
The limestone hill has activity dating back to the Bronze Age and now had a microclimate which has proved perfect for a wide variety of species, including a huge number of butterflies and plant species which can also be found in Arctic and Mediterranean environments.At 163m high, Warton Crag also comes with sensational views of the surrounding area.
The simple walk starts and ends at the George Washington pub, which dates back to the early 19th century and is named so because of the village's links to the first US president and his family. The village inn is popular with the locals and promises a warm welcome and a good selection of cask ales.
