It is alleged people often they have to lie in their own urine for hours until staff come in.
Vulnerable adults can wait up to 10 hours for help as care staff are sleeping, a whistleblower claimed.
The union Unite confirmed that some staff sleep on shifts, but a spokesman added: “There are real concerns across all of social care – especially for night shift and lone workers.” They added: “Recently I’d just gone to bed when a woman fell. Another woman saw her and was able to shout up to me to come down. If I’d been asleep I might not have heard her and she could have lain there all night.”

“Social work give each person a package of hours and the company works round that. But the councils need to find money to pay for waking nights. I know of other people who work in supported living for different companies and it’s the same all over.” Scottish Labour’s health spokeswoman Jackie Baillie said: “We need to value social care staff and pay them properly. Equally, the SNP government need to fund social care services. The cuts to council and health funding have had a direct impact on services for the most vulnerable people.”
