'The hate of men will pass.' Volodymyr Zelensky makes an emotional appeal to the power of cinema at Cannes
Zelensky spoke, with somber conviction, about the role of cinema in world affairs, at one point quoting—”The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people”—and noting that “the most brutal dictators of the 20th century loved cinema.” And his appearance at an international, but also staunchly European, film festival held particular resonance: Europeans, more so than those in the U.S.
