A POIGNANT parade remembering the Glasgow heroes who fought in the ‘forgotten war’ has been held in Knightswood.
branch of the Parachute Regimental Association, who organised the event, said: “We have been holding this parade since the veterans’ monument was unveiled in 2010.“This was the forgotten war. Victory in Europe Day was celebrated in May, 1945, and many people thought the war was over.”Veterans from across the city attended the event
The parade began at the granite memorial which was built and paid for by veterans from across the city.It is one of Scotland’s few monuments to living veterans, as well as fallen heroes. Two plaques in the small garden are dedicated to Glasgow men who fought the Japanese in Burma. Sergeant Frank Telford Cameron and Lance Corporal James McCormick served with the Cameronians, first battalion.Lance Corporal McCormick’s son Denis attended the parade.
