Hyperion, certified by Guinness World Records as the world's tallest living tree, is officially off-limits to visitors.

The coast redwood tree is 115.92 meters tall and its name is derived from Greek mythology -- Hyperion was one of the Titans and the father of sun god Helios and moon goddess Selene."Hyperion is located off trail through dense vegetation and requires heavy 'bushwhacking' in order to reach the tree," reads a statement on the national park's website.

In addition to erosion and damage caused at the base of the tree, there are secondary issues that come from an influx of people.
