West Virginia quickly blew it open in the final quarter. The Mountaineers scored a quick touchdown in the fourth quarter and tacked on a field goal before a 27-yard pick-six sealed the win.
“That was a great win,” West Virginia coach Neal Brown said. “I felt great about our preparation coming in, and this is one of the toughest venues to come in and play. I felt really good. This is something that we’ve been thinking about for a long time once we found out this was going to be a Thursday night game. I thought we played fast. We were really physical.”
The game — the final scheduled game between the two schools, just four hours away from one another — brought both teams’ records to 2-2. West Virginia will travel to Austin to face Texas next week and Virginia Tech will head to Chapel Hill to play North Carolina.
