The song, “Heart on My Sleeve,” was created from scratch by TikTok user Ghostwriter977, who slapped on a Metro Boomin producer tag and has since amassed over 11 million views.
As of Monday afternoon, the track is no longer available on several of the major streaming services including Apple Music, Spotify and Tidal, though it remains on YouTube. In a statement to, UMG said it supports the use of AI to assist artists but further criticized the use of generative AI tools when it infringes on copyright, further calling on streaming platforms to take action.
“The training of generative AI using our artists’ music as well as the availability of infringing content created with generative AI on DSPs, begs the question as to which side of history all stakeholders in the music ecosystem want to be on: the side of artists, fans and human creative expression, or on the side of deep fakes, fraud and denying artists their due compensation,” the company said.
