Protests across the country, which have been ongoing for three months, continued into Monday morning with a gathering in central Tel Aviv. The action followed a nine-hour occupation of the city by tens of thousands of protesters on Sunday night who clashed with police firing water cannons and blocked the main highway and lit bonfires, chanting “the country is on fire”.
