The Dressers Arms at Wheelton, Chorley, has been praised by some of the top critics in the country
It's the kind of venue that you might not even know exists. But hidden away in one tiny Chorley village is one of Lancashire's oldest pubs that was, until 50 years ago, also it's smallest.
But the modern day version of the watering hole is extremely modern, following an extensive rebuild after a large fire in 2014. The pub has kept its traditional layout, with a mixture of wooden and flagged floors.Until the 1960s, it boasted the title of Lancashire's smallest pub. A title which it is likely to never possess again following the micropub boom of the last decade.
Experts at the AA Guide say: "Until the 1960s, this was the smallest pub in Lancashire. The long, low, creeper-festooned old gritstone building is crammed with local photos, collectables and artefacts spread through a clutch of separate drinking areas; partly flagged floors are warmed by roaring fires in winter.
