Two advocacy groups staged protests in the House speaker's office in support of an HIV/AIDS medication program.
Alice Miranda Ollstein, a reporter for Politico, was among several people who shared footage on X of the activists chanting for McCarthy, a California Republican, to pass the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief .
PEPFAR, a government program that works with nonprofit groups to provide HIV/AIDS medication to people around the world, is set to expire on September 30 if it is not reauthorized. Somedo not support continuing the program, arguing it can be used to give funding to provide or promote abortion services.
