Former Everton striker Victor Anichebe commented on his old club after their 4-0 Premier League defeat at Aston Villa on Sunday
Former Everton striker Victor Anichebe has predicted his old club are facing "a long season" after failing to make the "big changes" he felt it needed.
Back in April 2022, after Everton lost 3-2 at a Burnley side now managed by their current boss Sean Dyche, Anichebe fired fierce criticism at the club's board. He said: "The players are responsible first and foremost. But Everton's board is absolutely horrendous. The money they've wasted, the sackings of influential staff like @embodyism , not letting Marcel Brands actually do his job, bringing in Rafa , creating a complete disconnect with fans and club.

However, their fortunes failed to improve and in January of this year Frank Lampard lost his job and was replaced by Dyche.
Anichebe, who scored 26 goals in 168 appearances for Everton, wrote on Instagram: "I said it last season when the club stayed up big changes were needed. Personally I would have been EXTREMELY grateful to Dyche and thanked him for keeping the club up but I would've went for Potter as the club needs a mentality shift and to breed through academy players.
