Erik Triana, 51, posted a comment online implying he would murder State Sen. Scott Wiener over the COVID-19 vaccination.
MARTINEZ — A San Ramon man was convicted Wednesday of threatening State Senator Scott Wiener in an email that made reference to the assassination of another prominent openly gay Bay Area politician.
Triana — apparently angry over California’s vaccine mandate laws enacted during the COVID-19 pandemic — sent a comment to Wiener signed “Amendment Second” that listed his address as the George Moscone Center in San Francisco.
“A public official should make decisions based on what benefits the community, not based on whether a decision will get the official killed. Modern politics can be polarized and toxic, but we must never normalize or tolerate death threats.”
