If you are not yet familiar with the reasons, it is well documented that the No. 1 car, driven by Miles / Hulme, was firmly in the lead yet the spoils went to the No. 2 GT40 of Amon / McLaren. Ironically, it is owing to this cruel twist of fate, coupled with the compelling story of Ken Miles, that the No. 1 car is now as infamous and iconic, if not more so, than its victorious brother.
