Eighth-ranked Toreros might have best team under Jennifer Petrie’s tutelage
The University of San Diego’s most successful athletic program — and it’s by a considerable margin — is Jennifer Petrie’s women’s volleyball team.
“The locker room was fun,” said setter Gabby Blossom, a graduate student transfer from Penn State. “Everyone was dancing, singing, having a good time.” First came Blossom, a third team All-American in 2019 at Penn State, who in four years with the Nittany Lions racked up 3,271 assists. By summer, 6-foot-3 outside hitter Breana Edwards, another graduate student, transferred from Indiana, along with libero Madi Allen from West Coast Conference rival BYU.“I think it is, from top to bottom, yes,” said Petrie, a Mt. Carmel High product.
Through eight matches this season, the 6-foot-5 Frohling leads with 94 kills, but right behind her are Edwards and Lukes .
