The Trojans’ leading scorer and rebounder, out of Rancho Christian High in Temecula, hopes to join younger brother Evan in the NBA
Isaiah Mobley declared for the NBA draft after hiring an agent, he announced on social media Saturday, leaving USC without last season’s leading scorer and rebounder.
Mobley – who tested the draft waters last year along with his younger brother, Evan Mobley – ultimately withdrew and returned for his junior season while Evan was taken third overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers after just one year as a Trojan.“These past three years have been amazing,” Mobley said in a caption announcing his decision. “I’ve had experiences that I’ll never forget, played with teammates that have become brothers , and I’ve done it all in front of the best fans in the country.
The elder Mobley’s departure is the end of a brief but successful Mobley era on the court at USC where the brothers provided a dominant paint presence for the Trojans. They started together during the 2020-21 season when USC reached the Elite Eight, but Isaiah Mobley’s breakout season came last year after Evan left for the NBA.
The 22-year-old Isaiah Mobley averaged 14.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and nearly a block a game. He isn’t projected to be selected as high as his brother was, but the lengthy forward, who can handle the ball and score from inside and outside, should be valuable in today’s NBA.
