Little Rock in Arkansas experienced the brunt of the damage but two people were also killed in the town of Wynne around 100 miles east. There was another death when a tornado caused a roof to collapse during a concert in Illinois.
At least six people have been killed after tornadoes ploughed through areas of the US south and Midwest.
One of the victims died after a theatre roof collapsed during a heavy metal gig in Belvidere, Illinois, with several dozen injured and people having to be dug from the rubble.Sarah Huckabee Sanders called up the state's national guard and declared an emergency as a tornado damaged homes and vehicles in the Little Rock area.The governor said two people had died in Wynne, in Cross County, while another death was reported in Pulaski County.
"Praying for all those who were and remain in the path of this storm," tweeted Ms Huckabee Sanders on Friday night.Dozens more are believed to have been injured in the state but exact numbers are currently unclear.
