Not the news many will have wanted
City council officials say they're not 'actively pursuing' a plan to redevelop land under the tramlines to create new shops and restaurants. Back in 2019, the authority allocated £25,000 towards a study looking into how land under the arches in Trent Street, near the taxi rank by Nottingham Railway Station, could be improved.
A City Council spokesman said: “We are not currently actively pursuing the proposals to convert these spaces into business units. However, other changes are taking place in the area, including one of the archways having been developed as a new accessway to the canal towpath, new business and residential developments on Station Street and our own public realm improvements on Canal Street and Sussex Street near the new college nearby.
"I think that would be helpful. It would be nice for a first impression as well for people that come here." Nottingham resident Paul Banks, 55, said: "It's an empty space where people chuck rubbish and it's an eyesore really if you got off the train there and then saw that. It would be nice a cafe or bar or little market stalls or whatever."
