Six-year FDNY veteran Timothy Klein, 31, died in the line of duty while fighting to contain the blaze at a home in Canarsie, according to the FDNY.

“On the scene at the large fire in Canarsie. Praying for all the residents and the brave members of the @FDNY who responded to the scene,” she tweeted. “Please join me in prayer for those who sustained injuries.” The city’s Department of Emergency Management warned neighbors to shut their windows and avoid the smoke from the fire.
Jorge Briones, who lives a block away from the scene of the fire, heard the sirens and saw the EMS workers, injured firefighters and white smoke.It was not the first line of duty death for the FDNY this year. Seven-year veteran Jesse Gerhard, who was 33 years old, died in February after suffering a medical episode at his firehouse, officials said.
