Leeds United had a very young starting line-up in their Bristol City win and while Pascal Struijk was wearing the armband it was the influence of Liam Cooper and Luke Ayling off the pitch which really impressed Daniel Farke
Decades have passed since Leeds United named league line-ups as young as this season’s, Daniel Farke was right, but he got the wrong game. Pascal Struijk’s selection as captain stood out as a clear sign of how little experience the manager had gone with against Bristol City on Saturday.
“Today he had the armband, but our club captain is definitely Liam Cooper,” he said. “It's always good to have him because he's a leader together with Luke Ayling, both with this experience leading the group. “This is crucial. Yes, when they're not in the starting line-up, of course, someone has to wear the captain’s armband. It's also not that Pascal won this in the lottery. He's also done a lot for this group.”
“He’s important for our group and he's on the way to grow more and more into this leader role and play a more significant part from year to year, that he will add to his tally. We need young players to grow into this role. In addition to Liam, to Luke, to Stuart Dallas, he is quite important for us.”
