Two-time All American athlete Kara Eaker announced her retirement from Utah gymnastics citing alleged verbal and emotional abuse.Eaker's resume is a long onw
Kara Eaker, an incoming freshman at the University of Utah is an alternate for the U.S. Olympics team. In a statement posted on her Instagram account on Friday, Eaker revealed the difficulties she faced while training with the Utah Gymnastics Team for the past two years.
She mentioned that the abuse took a toll on her physical, mental, and emotional well-being, leading to severe anxiety, depression, and related conditions.Former University of Utah gymnast reflects on allegations against program during investigationIn the post, Eaker expressed her disappointment, noting that the environment at the University of Utah did not align with the promises of a supportive community and sisterhood that she had expected when joining the program.
She explained that although the abuse was often subtle, it occurred during one-on-one coach-athlete meetings, leaving her feeling isolated and unable to speak up. "Instead of receiving positive and encouraging critiques to improve my skills, I was scared to death by the loud and angry outbursts from the coach, "What the h*** is wrong with you!" What the f*** are you doing!" "You better get your s*** together!" and "Pull your head out of your a**!" When I spoke up for myself and said, "I can't work like this, I don't do well when you yell at me," I was immediately shut down with the false defense...
To support her claim, Eaker recounted how she made appointments with the department to report the alleged emotional abuse and verbal attacks, only to be met with "gaslighting" of the situation.it is incomplete at best, and I disagree with their findings. I don't believe it has credibility, because the report omits crucial evidence and information and the few descriptions used are inaccurate," Eaker said.
