A stressed mum who relies on Universal Credit from the Department for Work and Pensions to keep her family fed and warm has spoken out about the impossible situation she finds herself in when she's down to her "last tenner".
29-year-old Paris' eldest Mason is autistic and Sam, 30, acts as his carer for which he receives a weekly carer’s allowance. Paris said they are reliant on the £370 Universal Credit top-up to be able to afford to live, as energy, food and medicine prices all sky rocket amid the cost of living crisis and they could be down to their "last tenner" when they’re hit with an unexpected bill.
“This is normally when we’re down to our last tenner and one of the kids is poorly or we need to get to an appointment, or a bill has come which we weren’t expecting. It makes me think ‘What are we going to do?’ Paris added: “As much as the kids come first, so does their home, heating and electric. It’s been stressful.
