The UK Parliament constituencies in North Lanarkshire are changing as the result of a nationwide review.
Currently there are three MP constituencies located entirely within the North Lanarkshire local authority area – namely Airdrie and Shotts, Coatbridge Chryston and Bellshill, and Motherwell and Wishaw while Cumbernauld, Kilsyth and Kirkintilloch East is partially located in East Dunbartonshire.
A constituency review will reduce the number of Scottish MPs from 59 to 57, while the overall number of UK Parliament members will remain 650. The Boundary Commission has recommended that North Lanarkshire’s new constituencies will be Airdrie and Shotts, Coatbridge and Bellshill, Cumbernauld and Kirkintilloch and Motherwell, Wishaw and Carluke. The first two of these are entirely within North Lanarkshire while the latter two include parts of East Dunbartonshire and South Lanarkshire respectively.
North Lanarkshire Council’s policy and resources committee formally acknowledged the recommendations and agreed to delegate the authority to its chief executive to approve any alterations to polling districts.Readers’ comments: You are personally liable for the content of any comments you upload to this website, so please act responsibly.
