✈️ Half term holidaymakers are facing several waves of industrial action in the UK, France and Spain this month
Travellers could also be impacted by the latest wave of Border Force walk outs,
. More than 1,000 Border Force staff who are members of the PCS union will walk out at the ports of Dover, Calais, Coquelles and Dunkirk on 17, 18, 19 and 20 February.during which military personnel and volunteers were drafted in to cover absent posts. The use of e-gates helped minimise disruption, however they are not used at UK border controls at French ports, where passports must be checked and “wet stamped” manually.
Mark Serwotka, general secretary of the Public and Commercial Services Union, said: “The strikes … will impact on people returning from their holidays during the half-term period… While the Government brought untrained military personnel in to replace our highly-skilled and experienced officers in airports over Christmas, they won’t be able to do that in France.”
Irish Ferries has advised customers to expect queues and possible delays at border control when travelling between Dover and Calais. DFDS also operates ferries between Dover and Calais and Dover and Dunkirk, while P&O Ferries operates between Dover and Calais. Eurotunnel Le Shuttle runs services between Folkestone and Coquelles, near Calais.
However Spanish law dictates that a minimum service level be maintained on strike days, depending on the routes affected. Jet2 has warned customers that its “flights operating to Alicante, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote may be delayed.”
