Bruce Pascoe Arizona Daily Star LAS VEGAS – In a first half that was fitting for the Pac-12's beaten-up top two seeds, UCLA edged out a 34-33 halftime lead in the conference tournament championship game Saturday at T-Mobile Arena.
Jaquez hit only 1 of 7 shots to begin the half but drove inside for a pair of layups with under four minutes left in the half, drawing a foul from Tubelis on the second one to give UCLA a 30-29 lead with 3:05 left. The game stayed within one possession the rest of the way, with Bailey making a layup to give UCLA the 34-33 lead with 40 seconds left after a turnover from UA's Pelle Larsson.
UA center Oumar Ballo, meanwhile, wore wraps on both his hands. He had been wearing wraps on his right hand since injuring his thumb and pinky in early February but wore a stiff-looking black wrap on Saturday over his left hand. UA point guard Kerr Kriisa went scoreless and without an assist over 18 minutes in his second game back after suffering a dislocated right shoulder on Thursday against Stanford.
