GOP presidential hopeful WillHurd blasted Donald Trump after special counsel Jack Smith added further charges to his indictment. 'Donald Trump is running for president in order for him to stay out of jail.'

The former congressman, who has a national security background, is particularly known for his anti-Trump position. While appearing on CNN, Hurd argued Trump is using his presidential run to escape prison time amid all the federal charges brought against him.“Donald Trump is not running for president to make America great again,” Hurd said on Thursday. “Donald Trump is not running for president to defend our interests overseas.

“I’ve never been indicted, and I am not a lawyer, but if you are deleting evidence, it is because you know you are committing a crime,” Hurd said. “And anybody who supports this, anybody who defends this, is complicit in endangering America.”Trump was indicted in New York related to alleged hush money payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election.

Smith is also investigating the role Trump played in the events leading up to the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol in 2021. A grand jury in Washington, D.C., has been deliberating and is expected to hand down an indictment in the coming days.
