Trial starts for woman charged with fatally stabbing stranger in Oceanside [Breaking]
As he approached his front door that spring morning in 2020, Chad Danielson had his dog on a leash and his jacket hood pulled up to fend off relentless rain. Danielson could not have known he was about to be ambushed and stabbed to death.
Jurors heard opening statements from the attorneys Monday morning, followed by witness testimony in a case the defense concedes is not a whodunit. Ramos’ public defense lawyer told the jury his client was the assailant. The assailant ambushed Danielson with a bear hug and began thrusting a large butcher knife into his torso, Hardy said. Danielson’s wife, Joy Danielson, heard the struggle, ran to the door and opened it. She saw her husband straddling a long-haired person on the ground, and punching that person in the face.
Stabbed seven times, the Jefferson Middle School physical education teacher died within 90 minutes of the attack. It was his 45th birthday.
