Train rides and engines galore as Peaky Blinders attraction hosts steam heritage festival
Train enthusiasts are in for a treat as the Lancashire Steam Heritage Festival comes to town this weekend.The attraction is already popular with visitors and a few years back was chosen as the location for an episode of Peaky Blinders.
This weekend's event, on May 20 and 21, will feature steam traction engines, miniature steam engines, vintage tractors and a whole lot more. There'll be lots to keep children entertained, including train rides, fairground rides and a ukulele band, as well as food and drink stalls. A collaboration event between The Lancashire Traction Engine Club and the Red Rose Steam Society, visitors will be able to see a steam loco on the 2ft gauge railway for the first time, as well as the attractions already on site, including the huge steam winding engine, the pit-head gear and the miner's cottage.
The museum occupies some 15 acres of the Astley Green Colliery site and its 98ft high lattice steel head gear, which can be seen for miles around, is a fitting memorial to its past.
