Tragic death of Preston newborn after mum found him unresponsive in his Moses basket
Six-week-old Benjamin Wright was taken to hospital after his mum found her newborn unresponsive in his Moses basket where he had been sleeping at the family home in Preston. Tragically he was pronounced dead and a post mortem was carried out after Benjamin's death on June 8 last year.
An inquest was opened on Thursday at Preston Coroner's Court with a final hearing scheduled to take place on July 25. Area Coroner Richard Taylor described the brief circumstances surrounding Benjamin's death.He said: "Benjamin was born on April 24, 2022, and died on June 8, 2022. He was found unresponsive by his mother in his Moses basket that afternoon.Inquests are held when a death is non-natural, unexpected or in any way suspicious.
Inquests are open to the public and the media and in Lancashire they are held at one of a number of locations, depending on where the deceased died, including Blackpool Town Hall, Preston Coroner's Court, County Hall in Preston and Accrington Town Hall. Sometimes, if an investigation is particularly complex or if there are several interested parties, a pre-inquest review is held to determine the scope and evidence of an inquest.
