Stephen Walpole was last seen in Ashton-on-Ribble almost a week ago
Emergency services were called to Preston Docks yesterday afternoon after a body was spotted in the water. Lancashire Constabulary attended the scene close to Britannia Drive, Ashton-on-Ribble.
They had been notified by a search team looking for the missing 58-year-old. Stephen from the Ashton-on-Ribble area of Preston, was last seen on Watery Lane at around 7.25pm on September 3.Formal identification is yet to take place, but his family have been informed. They are being supported by specially-trained officers.A spokesperson for police said: "A body has been recovered from Preston docks by a police underwater search team.
"While the body has not been formally identified, we believe it to be that of Stephen Walpole, 57, of Ashton-on-Ribble, who had been reported as missing and had last been seen on the evening of September 3. "Mr Walpole’s family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this very sad and distressing time. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed in due course to HM Coroner."
