A narrow cold frontal rainband swept the Sacramento Valley and foothills Saturday morning, dumping torrential rain for a short period.
at 9:17 a.m. that the rainband was causing intense torrential rainfall, lightning and locally strong wind gusts up to 50-plus mph, across the Sacramento Valley from Redding south to Davis."There's a strong cold front moving through right now. It's almost through the Sacramento area and moving through the foothills," Bill Rasch, a forecaster with the National Weather Service, said at 10:30 a.m."The worst of the weather for the Sacramento area is mostly over right now.
Rasch said the torrential downpours in the Sacramento area Saturday morning were quick, and the agency isn't expecting major urban flooding.The weather service for the Cosumnes River at Michigan Bar."The river is expected to rise above flood stage this evening due to heavy rainfall," the agency said.
