Tories say it would be a ‘miracle’ if they avoid triple by-election defeat as Rishi Sunak braces for bad week
in the coming days as Rishi Sunak faces a bruising final week before Parliament’s summer break.
Mr Sunak also faces a clash with the House of Lords as he battles to put his controversial migration policy into law, and will unveil overhauls of trans rules in schools and the UK’s military strategy. The Liberal Democrats are targeting Somerton and Frome, whose MP David Warburton resigned following allegations of sexual misconduct. This weekend Mr Warburton, who denied the allegations but admitted drug-taking, said the claims had been withdrawn., where the previous Tory majority was more than 20,000, although Uxbridge appears closer than expected having been seen as an easy Labour win. The Lib Dems claim they are slightly trailing the Conservatives in Somerton.
She told Sky News: “We’ve been in office one way or another, whether in a minority Government, in coalition, for about 13 years. So it’s understandable if we’re not necessarily winning by-elections.”
